November has officially started, which means that it’s basically Christmas, right? I’m an Autumn girl through and through, but I’ve found myself embracing the colder weather this week (mind you, as I’m writing this I’ve mastered the art of typing with both hands while also balancing my laptop a little bit too precariously on my knee instead of safely on my lovely, secure desk just so I can sit with my back leaning against a radiator so make of that what you will!) but my favourite thing about winter, apart from the opportunity to wear giant blanket scarves all day long and the very high possibility that someone will blast Christmas Lights by Coldplay throughout the office at any minute, has to be winter occasion wear! I don’t know what it is about this time of year that makes people want to go all out but we love it! And this year with so many postponed occasions finally getting the go-ahead our occasion wear is becoming more extra than ever due to the popular thought process of wanting to turn heads for your first occasion in almost two years!
Girls, let me tell you it’s a wonder that we didn’t completely implode with excitement when we first saw this dress from Ivy Lane, and it’s an absolute miracle that we didn’t completely implode with the pressure of not being able to show you all the second it arrived in (I think we managed to hold back for a whole 2 hours before we cracked) because the reaction was unanimous: it was the most stunning dress we think we’ve seen all year, and we knew that you would agree! This dress is a universally flattering style with the thick waistband to define the waist and the full pleated skirt to skim over the stomach and mid section in a really natural way. The subtle keyhole cut out at the back is keeping with the current cutout trend while still being classy and comfortable while the scalloped effect at the neckline is the perfect way to add a finishing detail to this outfit. The best part is that between the rich colour, the luxe crochet top and the pleated skirt, this dress is a statement piece on its own which means that you can pair with a simple gold heel and you’re good to go!
Sequins for Christmas are hardly groundbreaking but there’s a good reason for this: They simply never seem to fail! However, this green sequin dress from Ivy Lane adds a sophisticated, classy feel to this winter wardrobe staple! The square neckline is one of our favourite styles as it is always super flattering. It’s slightly deeper than a round neck meaning that it shows off that little bit more skin and elongates the body, yet not as deep as a V neck so it remains completely appropriate and comfortable throughout the day! The thicker straps make for ultimate support and the split at the back gives the dress a little bit more movement. And let’s not even get started on that stunning emerald green colour, which is always a trend when it comes to the winter months!
If none of these are enough of a statement to you then allow us to introduce this red and gold wrap midi from Ivy Lane! The wrap style has been a long standing favourite in GTT and is yet another one that seems to look amazing on any body shape. The tie at the waistline defines the waist while lifting the bust and creates the illusion of curves, and the deep v neckline does a great job of complimenting this by elongating the body. The puff sleeve is always flattering on the arms and never fails to create volume on the top of the body making them the perfect option for pear shaped girls. The lightweight fabric paired with the frill hem balances this out by adding volume and interest to the bottom half of the body. How amazing would this one be with gold heels to really make the gold floral detail throughout this dress really pop?
There’s something about a velvet midi dress that just screams Christmas, and this one from Hope & Ivy is no exception! The bardot neckline shows off the collarbone and draws the eye to the shoulders which can really balance out a wider mid section. The gathering at the bust also draws attention and creates volume, resulting in the subtle appearance of curves which is further emphasised by the lining just below to lift the bust! The split at the back adds movement and stops the dress from being restricting due to the thick fabric, but also breaks up the visual line which stops the dress from looking like it’s almost drowning the silhouette.
More of a Jumpsuit girl? Did you really think we would leave you out? The sweetheart neckline of this one is always my go-to when it comes to creating the illusion of curves while the puff sleeves of this one is again, really flattering on the arms (I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to this style’s slimming effect but believe me girls, if anyone’s conscious about their upper arms than a puff sleeve is an absolute must for concealing this!) The high waist of this one has the same effect as our beloved high waisted jeans and pulls in the waist to give us that hourglass silhouette. And the best part is that it has the ultimate essential: pockets! The wide legged style makes for maximum comfort but also adds volume to the bottom of the body which again creates the illusion of curves at the hips and brings definition to the figure. This one is the perfect option to some of our statement shoe lovers as the darker tones and simple cut would allow the shoe to be the talking point of the outfit, just picture this jumpsuit with a brighter heel to bring out the pops of colour of the top half as well as bring a bit of on trend dopamine dressing to the 'fit!
