Cut outs have gotten a major bad rep in the past few years and this is our formal petition to put an end to this! For the past few years it has become almost like a calling for skin tight bodycon dresses but this season has seen cut out detailing becoming almost like a style staple, with more work appropriate styles being introduced. We’ve spent the past year in oversized clothing hiding our bodies but with a newfound appreciation for pushing the boundaries with fashion we’ve began playing with the ideas of showing off our figures. And what better way to this than a cut out?
This detailing is the perfect way to add a sultry touch to a feminine dress, especially with a midi dress with a more full skirt like this one from Little Mistress. The small cut out details at the waistline really emphasise the waist and draw the eye to this area to define it further. Give Rihanna a run for her money in this bold red dress with the dramatic cut outs! The fuller skirt flows over the rest of the figure in a really natural way as well to add a classy, romantic feel to such a statement dress!
The best part about this new trend is that you can either go super sultry or go simple with a smaller cut out to show the smallest flash of skin. If you’re looking to start experimenting with this trend, then a subtle cut out detail like the one on this knitted top from Only is the way to go! We love the Autumnal colour of this one, while the detail at the bust keeps your work appropriate look bang on trend. The simplicity of this one also allows the cut out detailing to be the statement piece of the outfit.
Alternatively, if you’re more of a “go big or go home” kind of girl, we’ve got you covered! The more dramatic version of the trend, consisting of more obvious cut outs and string ties to create the illusion of more material, has been coined “floss fashion” (yes, I giggled at the name) and this top from Motel rocks would be perfect. This would be the perfect way to show off your figure for your next night out. The simple block colour of the top is contrasted perfectly by the dramatic cut outs and asymmetric style to allow you to well and truly turn heads.
The queen of trends, Bella Hadid, was spotted wearing cut out trousers and we’re obsessed. This pair from Motel Rocks is the perfect way to make an on trend statement. The flared bottom is a current trend that we don’t see going anywhere right now (major brownie points for comfort here!) while the subtle cutout details at the top of the thighs show off the tiniest bit of skin. How amazing would this be with a simple black top?
This blue slip dress combines cut outs with the Y2K style that’s also huge right now, with the backless style being the perfect way to commit to the skin baring cut out trend. Will give the torso an elongated effect while the extra material gathering around the stomach area is always sure to hide any lumps or bumps in this area in a really natural, flattering way!
