Is it just us or has everyone else found themselves dying to change up their skincare routine? When the retinol treatment from The Inkey List arrived with us a few months ago we knew that it was an absolute must have, and we’ve been obsessed with it ever since! Now don’t get me wrong, we know how overwhelming it can be when someone’s trying to explain skincare to you and is throwing out a lot of very scary sounding science-y words (Is it just me that visibly flinches at the word “acid” when talking about something I’m putting on my face?) That’s why we’re here to make this a little easier!
To put it simply, think of retinol as the Wonder Woman of the skincare world. It does it all, from minimising fine lines and wrinkles, to making the appearance of your skin more even, tackling blemishes, and improving skin clarity so give you that brighter, smoother, more youthful J-Lo style glow that we’ve all been looking for! But just how does it do this? We’re glad you asked!
As we get older our skin renewal naturally slows down and dead cells will gather on the surface of skin which can cause sagging, fine lines and wrinkles (thanks a lot, dead skin cells!) Retinol speeds this up and encourages skin renewal by helping surface skin cells to turn over and die rapidly, making way for new cell growth and helping new cells reach the surface quicker. As well at this it enhances and promote collagen production to give you that plumped skin, youthful look.
Some retinols can irritate the skin, but this particular retinol from The Inkey List contains only 1% stable registar retinol (which is the same as 0.5% retinol) and 0.5% granactive retinoid which will be slightly stronger than retinol. But one of the most important ingredients here has to be squalane which will help with soothing and hydrating the skin, minimising irritation in the process. Retinol burns, be gone!
Where exactly does retinol fit into our constantly expanding skincare routines? It’s important to only use retinol in the evening as it encourages newer skin to reach the surface quicker, which will increase sensitivity to the sun. You can apply retinol to a cleansed face after Hyaluronic Acid if you’re using it (this is another fave in GTT) by massaging a pea sized amount into your face and neck and follow up with your favourite moisturiser. It may take a while for your skin to get used to it, so you might want to start off light by applying 1-2 times a week to allow your skin to build up a tolerance to it before gradually increasing your use if needed! It can take up to 6 weeks to see results, but a lot of customers have seen a noticeable difference after only a week!
Not only is this a beauty fave in GTT, but is a favourite with skincare lovers everywhere! Shoppers say that it’s the perfect product to help you begin your skincare journey (remember that gentle, soothing ingredient that we mentioned above?), customers that have previously struggled with texture have noted that their skin has never been so smooth, while other shoppers have said that they’ve been getting compliments on their skin regularly after using this product!
