On Wednesdays (And Every Other Day) We Wear Pink PP!
A lot of members of the GTT Team are easily pleased: if something comes in pink, we're more than happy. We spend our days surrounded by pink walls, we're never short on pink highlighters, and Elle Woods has served as one of our style icons for years at this stage. So of course we were amazed (and a little jealous) at Valentino's pink themed Autumn Winter Collection launched at Paris fashion week! Hot pink (or Pink PP, as it has become known as in the past few months, as a nod to the creative director of the show) just so happens to be the colour of the season right now...but really, can you blame us?
For the past 10 years, pink has been limited to lighter blush tones (can we talk about the hold that rose gold has had on us since 2012?), and as much as we love our pastels, we're already obsessed with the pops of bold bright colours that we've been seeing recently, but where exactly did this hot pink come from?
It's no secret that after lockdown, fashion lovers everywhere were more than excited to take risks with their style, which has manifested itself in bold prints, daring cut outs, and bright columns of colour, from tomato red to emerald green to our beloved fuschia pink!
Another possible reason is the return of early 00's fashion. While we knew that the comeback of the century would call for platform shoes, corset tops and (*gulp*) low rise jeans, we weren't quite expecting these styles to bring the 2001 Pantone Colour of the Year with them! But we won't lie, we love a bit of fushcia rose!
As much as we would like to believe that the creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, went on a major High School Musical binge and was inspired by Sharpay Evans' colour of choice (as we've all been), the idea here was to cut back on bold prints and allow the block colour to encourage the audience to really focus on the finer details of the dress as well as the details of the model's face. Here are some styles that have been giving us major Valentino A/W Vibes (btw, please don't hate us for mentioning Autumn already, this will be the only mention of it today, I promise!)
You've all been loving this style and really, we can see why! The belted detail here adds shape and definition to the waistline in the most subtle way, while the relaxed fit of the pleated skirt skims over the tummy and hips to allow the dress to follow the natural shape of the body. The floaty sleeves create a distance between the arms and the material of the sleeves for a super slimming effect on the arms and the button up front really gives the dress a more conservative feel to make this the perfect option for family occasions!
We've been loving satin dresses in the past few months, so of course we've been obsessing over this bright pink button down style! Again, the lightweight fabric here flows really nicely to follow the body's natural shape while the slit front adds comfort and ease of movement. The button down front of this one adds the sweetest feminine touch to such a simple cut! We love how Lauren styled this one with gold heels to add an extra touch of sparkle to really make a statement!
Looking to make a fashion statement on that holiday this summer? Say no more, this wrap skirt just so happens to be a favourite right now! The tie detail at the waist here really adds shape and definition to the waistline while the dip hem effect never fails to have an elongating, slimming effect on the legs. The lightweight fabric of this style makes it ideal for travelling and the perfect way to bring an upcoming Autumn/Winter trend into our summer wardrobes!
Introducing: The skirt that made all of our Legally Blonde dreams come true! The Thick waistband of this mini skirt draws the eye to the waistline and adds shape and definition to the shape, while the mini hemline never fails to elongate the legs and bring the attention here. Did somebody say "legs eleven"? We love the button down detail here to add a 60's style retro feel! Pair this one with a white bodysuit to really allow you to wear the colour of the season without the outfit feeling too overpowering!
Ohh, this one's a head turner! The wide legged style of this jumpsuit from Ivy Lane is another great way to elongate the legs and create an hourglass shape, while the sweetheart neckline creates the illusion of curved on the top of the body. If you want to add a little bit more shape and definition to the waistline of this style you can do this really easily with a belt!
And it doesn't stop with occasion wear, we've been loving seeing our favourite hot pink filling up our casual wardrobes this year! This denim jacket is the ideal way to brighten up your most relaxed "jeans and a t-shirt" outfits or pair with a simple day dress for the perfect feminine look!
