The GTT Girls have two moods: “dresses and boots” or “dresses and trainers” (not mentioned here is our third lesser known mood: “hoodies that are two sizes too big, Pennys leggings from 3 years ago, and cosy socks” but we’ll move on) and to avoid a debacle like The Great Cardigan Debate of 2021 we’ve found a way to make sure that these two moods can live together in harmony. The simple fact is that dresses and boots are reserved for autumn/winter while dresses and trainers are a spring/summer vibe. But with so many fab trainers styles released this week we’ve decided to get a head start on our Spring wardrobe (don’t hate us for talking about spring already please!) Here are some of our current must have styles:
This smock dress from Daisy Street is such a simple, versatile style that would be super cute with trainers for a relaxed look. Smock dresses are always such a flattering style, that hang off the shoulders in a really natural way due to the loose, lightweight material and skim over any lumps or bumps. You can also add a belt to this one to add shape and definition to the waist. I love the feminine feel that the collar and floral detail bring to this dress, while the neutral colours would mean that you can add a little bit of glitz with your shoes. The gold detailing in these trainers paired with the textured effect at the back really adds interest to the outfit.
Midi dresses are such a versatile style that can be worn
with heels for a night out as well as with trainers for the ultimate relaxed day
to day look, just like this one from Only Carmakoma. The button down style of
this one offers maximum comfort and security while the tie detail adds shape
and defines the waist. The peach tones in these trainers from K-Swiss would really
make the pink floral print of this dress pop!
Another midi dress option would be this red tiered midi dress from Ivy Lane. This is another super flattering style due to the wider sleeves
which always have a slimming effect on the arms while the gathered material at
the waistline draws attention to the waist and the on-trend tiered effect of
the skirt adds volume to the bottom of the body, balancing out the volume
created on the top by the wide sleeves in a really subtle way. Keeping the bold
colour, tiered detail, and statement floral pattern of this one it would be
better to pair with plain white trainers in order to avoid an outfit that seems
overpowering or like there’s too much going on, you can really let this statement
dress be the talking point here.
This mini dress from Ivy Lane is another super versatile
style that can be either dressed up or dressed down so easily. The puff sleeves of this one add volume to the top of the body, while the pleats at the waistline draw attention to the waist. This one also has an on-trend tiered hemline to really add a feminine detail to the dress! The looser
lightweight material of the skirt skims over the hips in a really slimming way while
the ditsy floral detail brings a girly feel to such a simple dress, which
would really pop by pairing with these lilac trainers to bring out those
colours throughout the dress.
We’re huge lovers of chunky trainers for a relaxed, sporty look and love them with feminine dresses to contrast this for a street style that we love, just like this one from Ivy Lane. The square neckline is always flattering as it shows off the collarbones while also elongating the body. As well as this, the puff sleeves add volume to the shoulders and arms while the floral design and tie detail at the bust adds a more feminine feel to the dress. As this dress is so simple you can really go with a statement shoe like these chunky trainers.
